Malahide Castle – North County Dublin

The astonishing 12th century castle was the home of the Talbot family from 1185 until the early 1970’s. Sitting on 250 acres, the castle grounds are used as concert and event venues; there is a banquet hall for dining, a crafts shop and a restaurant. Tours are available if many languages so you’ll be sure not to miss Tara’s Palace, a unique and exquisite doll house, and the Talbot Botanic Gardens, covering almost 8 acres of the castle grounds – and if you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of the infamous castle ghost.

Howth – The Seaside Village

Howth and the Howth peninsula offer some of the most stunning seaside views on the East Coast of Ireland. With a colourful harbour, full of trawlers and yachts, bountiful restaurants, and a farmers’ market every Sunday, Howth is a picture perfect place to come and relax and satisfy your taste buds. The Sutton bay-side offers long beaches where swimming, windsurfing and sunbathing are necessities for water worshippers. Just a bit up the coast from the beach is Howth Head with moderately difficult hiking and biking trails that offer spectacular views of the Irish Sea ending at the summit. From the Summit, you can see all of Dublin Bay, and on a clear day, you can even see the Wicklow Mountains. When you’re finished have a pint at the Abbey Tavern on Abbey Street. The tavern is built from the old ruins of a 14th century Abbey most of which remain right next door.
