Also refereed to as the "Silver Coast" this coastline stretches from Lisbon to Oporto and is a spectacular area of unspoilt natural beauty. Visit the capital Lisbon for excellent shopping, museums, galleries, places of interest and great nightlife. The well known towns of Cascais and Eresort built by the sea have beautiful beaches and are rich in traditional culture and crafts. Water sports are easily accessible not only in the waters around the resorts but also in many of the lagoons inland.

Out & About in the Lisbon Coast

Visit Obidos, an ancient and beautiful medieval town and one of the most renowned walled settlements in Portugal today with its narrow cobles streets, flower beds, windmills, and terracotta roofed houses with their traditional whitewashed walls.

Catch the ferry from Peniche to the island of Berlenga Grande where there are beautiful walks around the harbour, a lighthouse, beaches and an amazing fort towering over the bay.

Fatima, one of the most famous shrines worldwide dedicated to Our Lady is located on the west coast. Walk around the marvelous Basilica, cathedral, tombs and places of worship to take in the calm and reflective atmosphere around this site.

The town of Sintra, rich in historical treasures, offers palaces, castles and gardens all surrounded by forests and gorges. The town has many restaurants service delicious local cuisine and an array of craft, pottery and ceramic shops.

Lisbon itself offers excellent shopping, weekend markets, museums, tourist attractions and historical monuments and is a lively place at night to catch a show, nightclub or the casino.

Golf on The Lisbon Coast

The Lisbon Coast is no exception when it comes to championship golf courses and offers some of the finest in Portugal. The Quinta da Marinha course is set with the backdrop of the beautiful beach in Guincho. Oitavos Golf in Quinta da Marinha is the 1st golf course to be opened in Europe and is set in the beautiful grounds of Sintra-Cascais national park. The Penha Longa course offers 18 holes of challenging golf set with views over the mountains and landscapes of Sintra.

Beautiful Beaches

It is easy to see how the coastline earned it’s name of “ The Silver Coast “ The azure blue waters glistening in the sun and the stars dancing on it at night is a wonder to see. There is a marvelous selection of beaches around this coastline, many of them flying the Blue Flag for excellence. Some of the most popular are Praia Grande and Adraga near Sintra. Santa Cruz and Ribeira das Ilhas near Ericeira, all offering excellent beach bars, restaurants water sports.

You will find a great selection of sporting activities to entertain all ages. For water lovers, jet skiing, water skiing, surfing, fishing, boat trips, scuba diving and paragliding are widely available and many resorts offer training courses for surfing and diving.
