Leisure activities:

An Crannog Cottage is situated in the area of Moygara outside the village of Gurteen, Co.Sligo. Gurteen is a mecca for traditional music, and this small village and it's surrounding hinterland has produced a disproportionate number of players for it's size. There are many pubs in the area where traditional music sessions can be enjoyed. Gurteen is also home to the Coleman Traditional Irish Music Centre which has a music school and visitors centre and during July and August holds Summer Sésuins - nights of traditional Irish music, song and dance - every Wednesday and Saturday night and legend has it that the region around Gurteen was once the land of Corran, the harper of the Tuatha de Danann, the divine beings of Irish mythology who inhabited Ireland before the coming of the Gaels.

The lakes of Sligo, with their still waters and wooded islands, are truly spectacular, and form a striking contrast to the county's rugged uplands. An Crannog Cottage is perfectly situated close to Lough Gara, Lough Talt, Lough Key and Lough Arrow where days can be passed fishing for pike, beam, perch or trout.

There are also plenty of features of historical interest nearby such as Clougher Stone Fort, Costellos Mansion and Moygara Castle. Moygara Castle overlooks the beautiful Lough Gara, which features one of the largest collection of crannogs, manmade islands built for protection in Ireland’s Bronze and Iron ages. Other prehistoric sites in the area include Drumanone Portal Tomb, considered one of the most impressive Megalithic portal tombs in Europe and Carrowkeel, along with Carrowmore, the two major passage tomb cemeteries in County Sligo.

Being situated in South Sligo, An Crannog Cottage is perfectly located to enjoy many diverse activities; from sailing, fishing and kayaking on the lakes, to hill walking on the Curliew and Bricklieve Mountains, to experiencing the Atlantic and Sligos many fine beaches just 30km away.

There's plenty to keep kids entertained too with Eagles Flying (Irelands largest sanctuary for birds of prey) in Ballymoate, and Waterpoint Aqua Park (with it's 65m slide!) situated in Enniscrone. There are also many good riding schools situated throughout the county.
