Located on the Southern coast of the Iveragh peninsula and set against the backdrop of spectacular scenery, and stunning views, Caherdaniel has much to offer the visitor.

Caherdaniel is located on the Ring of Kerry Road between Waterville and Sneem, on the shore of Derrynane Bay. The bay is a renowned centre for all types of Watersports - swimming, diving, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding and of course, sailing. All available in the safe enclosed harbour of Derrynane. Other very popular activities available in the area include horse-riding, sea angling, golfing and hill walking. With activities for all ages, Caherdaniel is a perfect family holiday destination.

Derrynane Bay has much to offer the nature lover too - from natural rockpools and sandy coves, to natterjack toads and birdwatching in Iveragh - the diverse landscape offers both gentle strolls and hiking trails. Derrynane House has a very useful Nature Trail booklet for those who wish to really explore the National Park and surrounding area.

Places of Interest

The stone fort of Caher (c 600 B.C) is what gave Caherdaniel its name and this can be found on The Kerry Way famous walking trail which is to the north of the village. The Kerry Way is the longest and one of the most scenic hiking trails in Ireland and it's well worth exploring at least part of it. The trail is divided up into manageable sections and route maps are available to help you plan your walk.

Derrynane House and National Park Derrynane House was the ancestral home of Daniel O'Connell. Today some 120 hectares of the lands of Derrynane, together with Derrynane House, make up Derrynane National Historic Park. Some features of the demesne are strongly associated with Daniel O'Connell, including the old Summer House. The main area of the gardens, set inland and to the north of the house, can be reached through a tunnel under the road.

Staigue stone fort is a partly ruined round stone fort, located near Caherdaniel.. The fort is thought to have been built during the late Iron Age, probably somewhere between 300 and 400 AD, as a defensive stronghold for a local lord or king.

Being located on the Ring of Kerry, Caherdaniel makes the ideal base for touring the many sites of interest that this area has to offer.

A market is held in the village every Friday during the summer and Caherdaniel also has a convienience store and post office and there is a great choice of traditional pubs and fine restaurants in and around the area too - perfect for rounding off the day's activities!
