House Overview

Mountshannon is a beautiful, scenic village set on the shores of Lough Derg. Mountshannon has been a National Tourism and Tidy Towns award winning village and this complex of just 12 houses is located in the heart of the village surrounded by many pubs and restaurants.

These newly built houses have been designed to blend the traditional and the modern. Features such as stone walls, ceiling beams and contemporary decoration are combined to create a calming, spacious home away from home. The houses have three bedrooms downstairs: a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom.

The living area is open plan with comfortable furnishings, television and electric coal effect fire in the relaxing lounge area and a kitchen which is fully equipped for your self catering needs, with oven and hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is also access via double doors to a balcony - perfect for enjoying a cool breeze on a warm day.

Extra Charges:

A security deposit of €100 is required on arrival, this will be refunded provided that there have been no breakages/damages, and the house has been left in a clean and tidy condition.
Electricity: Meter read and payable on site as an extra charge.
Bed linen included and towels are available to hire.
Cots and highchairs are available for a fee of €5 each per stay. (Please request at time of booking).

Leisure activities:

Mountshannon is an ideal location for anyone interested in outdoor activities and the houses are located within walking distance of the marina, where boats can be hired for fishing or some exploration of the lake and islands. There is also a shallow water swimming area which is semi-enclosed by the harbour wall and jetties which has a lifeguard on duty during late summer months.

The village is also surrounded by woodland and Woodpark Forest Park is located just 1.5 miles from the village centre. Here you will find pathways, ideal for cycling or walking, interspersed with sculptures, picnic tables and benches.

Things to do locally:

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is one of Ireland’s top visitor attractions. A visit to the Castle, the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland, and the absorbing Folk Park nearby is a wonderful experience for all the family. At night-time, the Castle is the impressive setting for medieval banquets which are held year-round subject to demand.

The Cliffs of Moher
The majestic Cliffs of Moher stand against the might of the Atlantic Ocean. O’Brien’s Tower is located on the highest cliff and is the best location from which to view the Cliffs, from this vantage point one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins and the Maum Turk Mountains to the north in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. The Cliffs can be visited daily, year-round.

Aran Islands Cruise, Liscannor
The cruise enables you to visit all of the three islands and also view the spectacular cliffs of Moher on the way. It departs Liscannor Pier at 09.00 hrs and arrives back at 19.30 hrs. This gives ample time to tour each island or laze on the beaches or just stroll around and commune with the magic of Aran.

Lahinch Seaworld
Fun for all the family. Features include an Aquarium, 25m heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steamroom and Kiddies pool. In the Aquarium you can come eye to eye with some rare and spine chilling fish species as they surround you. Sammy Shark Playzone is a two story maze of ball ponds, slides, scramble nets, climbing ladders and loads more to keep even the most active children happy.

Lakeside Watersports Centre
This is a beautiful lakeside park, situated in west shore of Lough Derg, near Mountshannon village. the park offers a rang of activities which include, motor boats, rowing boats, windsurfers and sailing-boats. All these are for hire at daily or weekly rates.

Craggaunowen - 'The Living Past'
Craggaunowen 'The Living Past' tells the story of the arrival of the Celts in Ireland and the many changes they wrought upon daily life. Their impact is evidenced in the creation of new tribal lake dwellings, farming and hunting methods which are explained by the costumed animators.

Local Area Overview

Mountshannon is a beautiful scenic village, located on the shores of Lough Derg. It is located on the R532, 50km from Limerick City and Shannon Airport, and 100km from Galway City. It is located between Scarrif (5 miles) and Whitegate (4 miles).

Mountshannon is a lovely place to visit, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The village is located on a hill looking down over a beautiful harbour, with an exceptional view of the lake.

Close by are: ring forts, holy wells, wedge tombs, famine graves and Holy Island, a monastic settlement. Holy Island is just a short boat trip from Mountshannon, and there you will see various churches, graveyards and religious stone carvings.

Mountshannon Harbour is suitable for swimming as it is shallow, and there are life guards on duty during summer months

There are lots of great pubs and restaurants in Mountshannon – The Snug Wine bar and Pizzeria, An Cupan Caife, The Village Inn, The Bridge bar, and many more.

Local events include: Iniscealtra Festival of Arts, takes place every May.
