Carlingford Adventure Centre

: With loads of land and water based activities, such as: sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, piccolos, raft building, rock climbing, absailing, high ropes, archery and trekking.

Coarse Fishing: North Meath is well known for its many lakes and in the past was frequently visited by the well known English fisherman Benny Ashurst, who was world coarse fishing champion. Close by is the river Dee, which is a good game river. For the coarse angler there are many species of fish, including pike, perch, bream, roach, rudd, hybrids, tench, carp and eels and fly fishing for trout and salmon is widely available throughout county Meath in its rivers and lakes.

Cultural: Drumconrath is the birth place of the Irish speaking poet, Aodh Mac Domhnaill (1802 – 1867) and Patrick Reilly, author of the Rural Harp was born near Ballyhoe on the Monaghan border in 1825.

Just outside Carrickmacross is the village of Enniskeen - birthplace of Patrick Kavanagh. A fine interpretative centre in the old church commemorates his memory.

Nobber (5 miles) is the birthplace of Turlough O’Carolan, the blind harper (1670 – 1738) and every autumn the O’Carolan Harp and Cultural festival is held and a thriving harp school now exists in the area celebrating the memory and music of the world famous harper and composer.

Historical: Within easy driving distance is the historic Boyne Valley with its famous megalithic tombs and Battle of the Boyne site. In the same area is the village of Slane on whose hill St. Patrick lit the Paschal Fire. Francis Ledwidge the poet was born close by and in modern times Slane has become universally known for its famous concerts.

Monasterboice with its high crosses and round tower, Old Mellifont founded in 1142 while the Cistercian Community at New Mellifont in the village of Collon continues the monastic tradition down to this day.

To the north lies Carlingford, Omeath and the Cooley peninsula with its mountains while 10 miles to the north west of Drumconrath is Dun na Rí forest park and Cabra
